Steps, requirements, and information about applying for a Vehicle Clearance Certificate

Note: When traveling to South Africa via Namibia–South Africa border posts, no clearance certificate is needed. However, clearance is required when traveling to Botswana, Angola, Zimbabwe, or Zambia.

Vehicle Clearance Certificate: Phase 1

  • Car registration certificate (SARPCCO clearance SAD500 if from outside Namibia)
  • You must have your vehicle with you
  • Fill in the vehicle and owner's identification form
  • Officer in charge will inspect the vehicle
  • Processing duration: 3 to 4 working days
  • Services available at Windhoek Police Station Phase 1 and Wanaheda Police Station
Vehicle Clearance Certificate: Phase 2

  • Bring both the copy and original of your car registration certificate
  • Pay a fee of N$ 100.00 (Cash only)
  • Must include your original ID, Driver’s Licence, or Passport
  • You can apply in regions countrywide (e.g., Oshakati, Opuwo, etc.)
  • State your destination country when traveling across borders

  • Know your car's details: colour, registration number, engine capacity, model, etc.
  • Certificate is issued within 3 to 4 days
  • Valid for 90 days. After expiry, a re-inspection will be done for re-issuance
  • If vehicle details don't match, you'll need to restart from Phase 1
